How the rotary evaporator works:
By electronic control, the flask is rotated at a constant speed at the most suitable speed to increase the evaporation area. The evaporation flask was brought to a negative pressure by a vacuum pump. The evaporation flask was heated in a water bath while rotating at a constant temperature, and the solution in the bottle was subjected to heat diffusion evaporation in a rotating flask under a negative pressure.
Operation and principle of separating toluene and benzaldehyde
The boiling point of toluene is 110.6 °C. The boiling point of benzaldehyde is 178 °C. The difference between the boiling points is large. The simplest method is distillation separation and purification, or steaming separately with a rotary evaporator.
The specific operation is mainly to use a distillation purification device, control the temperature at 110-120 degrees, collect the distilled toluene and the remaining benzaldehyde.
However, the benzaldehyde collected by this method is impure, generally mixed with a very small amount of toluene, because a small amount of toluene and a large amount of benzaldehyde can form an azeotropic mixture, which cannot be separated by distillation.
