It is reported that Italian scientists invented a new technology in November 2003 that can produce high-strength and high-value polymers from a mixture of waste plastics.
Scientists said that the technology is to recombine these molecules into synthetic molecules by decomposing the molecules of waste plastics, resulting in uniform melting. The most recent method is to add solid carbon dioxide (ie, dry ice) to the mixture, and the carbon dioxide becomes a liquid under a certain pressure, causing a slight explosion like the collision of hot balls. Part of the carbon dioxide evaporates into gas in a matter of seconds. Afterwards, various molecular fragments react rapidly at the ends of the decomposition chain with unpaired electrons and recombine rapidly to form a firm new polymer.
These composites have the same strength as pure polyethylene and are as hard and durable as PVC plastics.
