Films suitable for food packaging

[Abstract] describes a controlled permeability membrane comprising at least one film-forming polymer, and an inert, non-porous filler material having an average particle size such that the ratio of filler average particle size to film thickness is from 0.67 to 0.99. Packages comprising such controlled permeability membranes, and methods of making membranes and methods of using it to improve shelf life of perishables are also described.
