UIAA Tournament Rules - Bouldering Rules

Translation: Zhang Qing School translation: Zhao Kai Translated from: 03_ICC-Handbook (Chapter 6)

I. Introduction

This rule shall be implemented in conjunction with the general rules of the International Athletics Climbing Committee's rules of the game and the rules of the World Cup climbing contest.

Second, the general

Bouldering consists of a series of short and hard lines, often referred to as PROBLEM. There is no need to use rope protection when climbing. The number of hand points on a route does not exceed 12, and the average number of hand points for each line in a round should be between 4 and 8.

All lines must be protected by floor mats. The size and position of the mat are determined by the aligner. If multiple mats need to be laid together, a cover should be added to prevent athletes from falling into the gaps between the mats.

Bouldering competitions should include one round, or two rounds (called qualifying and finals). In the event of unexpected accidents, the qualifying match may be cancelled. In this case, the referee may also consider reducing the number of lines.

The number of lines in a qualifying match must not be less than 4 or more than 8. The final number of lines must be at least six.

For safety reasons, the design of the route should ensure that the distance between the lowest part of the athlete's body and the protection pad is not more than 3 meters.

Also for safety reasons, you should not design a downward bouncing action.

The referee work on each line is completed by a referee and an assistant. The referee must be a national referee.

Each route must have a pre-defined starting position from which each athlete begins to climb. The starting position must indicate where the two hands are required to be placed, and the desired foot or two feet may also be marked. All starting positions must be clearly marked in a uniform manner. If necessary, the international route officer has the right to indicate on the starting point whether it is left-handed or right-handed, or left-handed or right-handed.

Grab a special designated fulcrum on the line to receive reward points. The position of this point is determined by the aligner. This point must be clearly marked in a way that is different from the starting point and the ending point. If an athlete successfully climbs the course without using a reward point, he can still get bonus points.

The finish must be clearly marked with the same color as the starting point. In some cases, you can use the standing position at the top of the route as a sign for climbing the route.

If necessary, mark the route boundary line in red.

Marks used in accordance with rules 2.8 to 2.10 should be consistent throughout the game. There should be examples on the warm-up wall in the area of separation.

Taking into account the needs of the audience, all routes should be set up on a high platform. At the very least, the last 4 routes in each round should be placed where they can be seen from anywhere on the playing field.
Third, observe the route time

The route of observation is part of the climb time specified by the route, and there is no time to observe the route separately.

The athlete must stay in the specified observation area during the observation route. Do not climb on the rock wall or stand on other equipment or devices to observe the route. Athletes are not allowed to communicate with anyone outside the observation area. In case of doubt, only the referee, the project judge, or the route referee on the route can seek explanation. Touching a fulcrum other than the starting point will get a yellow card warning.
Fourth, climb the program

Athletes must climb multiple lines in each round. After the climb of a line is over, the athlete has the same rest time as the specified climbing time. Before the start of each round of competition, the referee must announce or announce the number and sequence of lines to be climbed in this round. Observe the area of the line on each line. The area must not see other lines and have a mat that provides security.
