CIP4 Organization Announces New Print E-Commerce and Automation Specification

On March 28th, The International Cooperation for the Integration of the Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress (CIP4) announced the launch of the PrintTalk 1.3 Schema and its accompanying Reference Implementation (reference implementation). There is also a set of compatibility guidelines (Interoperability Conformance Specifications, ICS') based on JDF version 1.3 and the new PrintTalk 1.3.

PrintTalk is a specification document for printing e-commerce information. It is very useful for data conversion between customer systems, e-commerce for network printing, and printing evaluation, scheduling, and MIS management. The PrintTalk specification was developed since the late 1990s, when it was under the responsibility of the PrintTalk organization under the NPES Association. It involves a series of print purchasing operations, including issuing valuation requests, valuations, confirmations, and other work. PrintTalk initially collaborated with the CIP4 organization to enable relevant data collected during the print procurement process to be applied to production through JDF files, thereby linking the intent of the print service buyer directly to production, which would also eliminate production parameters. Repeated entry.

In 2005, the PrintTalk organization believes that they have completed the consolidation and definition of all business items related to the procurement of printing services. The next most important goal is how to ensure that PrintTalk can be synchronized with JDF. PrintTalk 1.3 is the first version of the PrintTalk Schema and Reference Implementation that is fully compliant with the CIP4 specification. The version number 1.3 here means that it is fully compatible with JDF version 1.3.

“The benefits of automation and automation have extended from printing companies to clients, and are now the first thing many printing companies need to solve,” said Margaret Motamed, chairman of the CIP4 organization. "One of the goals of automation is to eliminate duplication of effort, such as the repeated entry of detailed descriptions of business work orders. At the same time, (automation) will also make the design, procurement, production, and distribution of printed matter faster and more reliable for end users and printing. The information processing process is more closely attached. The new version of PrintTalk launched this time is more closely integrated with JDF. This is an important milestone in the road to full automation."

Released simultaneously with PrintTalk, a series of new ICS files based on the JDF specification version 1.3 released by CIP4. The JDF product certification tests conducted by the PIA/GATF are based on JDF ICS files. When conducting a product certification test, the test product must be able to meet the requirements of these guidelines for the definition of a subset of JDF specifications for graphic arts systems and software in order to be considered to minimally support the JDF specification. Each ICS guidance document is for a specific step in the printing production, or it is an interface between an ongoing printing process system and another follow-up operation step.

The new ICS file system includes the "Customer-to-MISICS" (Customers-to-MISICS) file based on the new PrintTalk 1.3, which specifies the front-end customer-facing system and print MIS that support JDF. The data conversion problem between systems, which will enable the entire production process to support JDF. Other newly released ICS files also include:

* MISWeb: ICS-to-web press ICS for commercial rotary printing;

* MISNews: ICS-to-web press ICS for newspaper printing;

* MISCPS: MIS to traditional printing (sheetfed) ICS;

* PreCP: Prepress to traditional printed ICS.

Among them, the ICS files of the first two web printing presses were introduced for the first time, and there was no corresponding JDF 1.2 version of the ICS file. The ICS files for PreCP and MISCPS are the upgraded versions of the corresponding JDF 1.2 files.

"The ICS file launched this time has greatly enriched the ICS support library," said CIP4 technical officer Dr. Rainer Prosi from Heidelberg. “This is the first time that researchers have been able to fully understand the implementation of JDF and the support for JMF from customer input to pre-press, printing and post-press processing. At the same time, researchers have also From ICS, we know the standards for product certification that our equipment should perform. More importantly, the development of ICS files also enables printing companies to make their own business processes smoother.”
