In all-weather protection systems for functional apparel, a balance between waterproofness and breathability can always be found. It has three basic types: high-density fabrics, coatings, and films.
High-density fabric
The high-density fabric is woven and impregnated with extremely fine synthetic yarns, thus providing a waterproof function. This so-called fine yarn greatly reduces the fabric's pore size and achieves water resistance of 1 meter water column. There will be some fine beads on the surface of the fabric, but it will not be waterproof for a long time. Fine fabrics have excellent breathability and are easy to maintain. However, after washing or dry cleaning, it must be re-dipping.
coating
The coating is applied directly to the fabric surface with a polymer. In the past, mainly rubber or PVC coatings (such as blue-bottom reflective yellow rubber raincoats) were thick but airtight. Now, there are a variety of breathable coatings (usually PU coatings). It is better waterproof than high-density fabrics but has poor air permeability. Such garments are sometimes difficult to maintain. This is determined by different systems, because after washing or dry cleaning, the coating often loses its waterproof function.
film
The film is first manufactured separately and then used in clothing after being compounded with the fabric. Film microporous membrane and non-porous hydrophilic membrane (PU coating is also classified). Microporous membranes have very fine pores that allow moisture molecules produced during perspiration to pass through but not rain.
New protection film
Xinbaoshi Film is a closed hydrophilic polyester film that is non-porous. Through a physical/chemical process, it allows molecules of water vapor to pass from the inside to the outside while water outside cannot enter. The advantage is that because it is a non-porous structure, it will not be blocked by detergent residues or salt crystals. So this closed film can maintain long-term breathability. Neosulfide film is composed of copolymers: polyester (waterproof) and polyether (water vapor allowed). On each jacket, it weighs only 30 grams. The film is only 0.01mm thick, translucent, 100% waterproof, 100% windproof and has maximum air permeability. Xinbao Shi film is completely environmentally friendly and recyclable.
