Abstract: Oregano essential oil is yellow-red or brown-red essential oil with all the spicy and aromatic odor of thyme. It is insoluble in glycerin, soluble in water and ethanol, but also soluble in most non-playing oil and propylene glycol. Boiling point: 236 ~ 237 ℃; Melting point: 0.5 ~ 1 ℃; Flash point: 100 ℃; Optical rotation: -2 ~ 3 ℃; Refractive index: 1.5024 ~ 1.5048; Relative density: 0.9356 ~ 0.9336; Heavy metal test: negative; not included Organic solvents such as ethanol.
Objective To analyze the components of volatile oil in Yinchen and Oregano and compare their similarities and differences. Methods According to the provisions in the appendix [Determination of Volatile Oil] of the "Chinese Pharmacopoeia" in the 2010 edition, the volatile oil in Yinchen and Oregano was extracted and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results The main components of volatile oil of Yinchen and Oregano were monoterpenes and bicyclic sesquiterpenes. The mass fractions of these two types of components in Yinchen volatile oil were 31.31% and 68.69% respectively; the mass fractions in oregano volatile oil were 69.31% and 20.25% respectively. Among them, the content of the two common components in the monoterpenes is 17.89% and 44.46% respectively; the content of the two common components in the bicyclic sesquiterpenes is 21.07% and 14.0% respectively. Conclusion The volatile oil of Yinchen and Oregano contains some of the same ingredients, but the content is quite different.
